GROW: NDIS Garden Club & Therapeutic Gardening Program for Young Adults
Do you struggle with stress and anxiety? Do you find it hard to meet new people? Are you interested in nature and want to learn how to grow an edible garden and nurture your wellbeing with other like-minded young people?
GROW is an 9-week small group, hands-on, therapeutic gardening program for young adults (18-25 yo) that integrates positive psychology, nutrition, & lifestyle medicine with plant-based activities to enable participants to grow their own food (their outer garden) whilst developing their inner garden (their emotional and social wellbeing), learn how to navigate stress and anxiety, connect with nature and have fun with a small group of like-minded young people.
The GROW Program has been developed to help you learn the basics of growing your own food from seed to plate. Topics covered may include sowing seeds, planting seedlings, understanding soils, companion planting, nature art and so much more.
As participants learn how to GROW an edible garden, the GROW program will also explore how participants can cultivate their ‘inner garden’ to manage stress and anxiety and support their physical, social and emotional wellbeing. Experiences in the garden act as metaphor for what we need for our own thriving. Concepts of nutrition, meaningful movement, building healthy relationships, mindfulness and other evidence-based skills for stress and anxiety management are discussed to support participants ‘inner garden’.
GROW is designed for young people with the following goals in mind:
Improve confidence and self-esteem through learning how to grow an edible garden
Reduce stress and improve mood and overall wellbeing
Reduce social isolation and improve social connection
Learn coping skills and self-care strategies for the body, mind and spirit with a focus on stress management
Enhance a sense of connection and belonging to nature
